FAQs
Working with a Health Coach is beneficial for anyone looking to create healthier habits in their life. Have you been trying all by yourself? Have you been yoyo dieting? Have you given up? Then grab a helping hand. Every person, family and household has different schedules, preferences, restrictions and timeframes. So we sit down and work out what you need. For example, we might learn how to meal plan quickly and easily. Or, we might delve into those habits you want to change like cravings and emotional eating.
We talk and get to know each other a little first. Then we establish and prioritise your health goals. We look at what’s going on now and what has got in the way in the past. We then establish the plan for your individual needs. I help you break that plan down and together we set the actions that you will commit to. All this will develop new techniques to break old habits. It will be fun at times and tough-going other times I can guarantee! You will be stretched a little outside your comfort zone, that’s where the change happens.
The most common client I work with is the busy, overwhelmed person who knows what they want, and what they should be doing. But they can’t seem to achieve it on their own. This could be a depressed mother who feels she’s slipped while raising her family and has lost her old energy as she’s gained extra weight. Or maybe a person who is totally confused by contradictory media messages about what to eat. Often a person who has had a serious health scare will take action and see a health coach.
Health coaching is supported self-management. It is about you taking responsibility for your own lifestyle choices and their consequences. Coaches help you to develop your unique plan to get motivated, organised and build confidence. They help you find your own way to develop healthier habits that you can ACTUALLY stick to. But they also hold you accountable so that you get the results you want. It is a playful mix of support and challenge.
More importantly than anything else, I have lived life with all its ups and downs. I understand eating just because it feels good emotionally. I understand how hard it is to change habits. I get the busy busy lifestyle where I don’t look after me. I have trained in coaching for some years now and worked with all sorts of clients.
Health Coaching specifically helps you to learn healthy habits rather than simply being told what to do. So many other professionals tell you what to do. They may train or teach you to adopt good habits. They may have been in your boots and can therefore mentor you. A counsellor may look at your past to uncover your dilemmas and traumas. This is different! It’s about skills and not pills. It’’s about taking responsibility for your own health and being future focussed.
Absolutely not. If this is what you want, I will happily refer you to someone who can help. I will also refer you to other practitioners should you request additional support like personal training.
No way. That’s what technology is for. We can use any video software, even a good old phone. You’d be very surprised to know how effective it is to be coached with just a phone and remove all visuals. That is a super effective way to be focussed and make change happen.
